The Unique Ornament Royal Army Crown
One of the unique ornaments used by the sergeant of St. Sylvester's college eastern cadet band is the Crown which was gifted by the Royal family in nineteen Sixties.
During a band display for welcoming Royal family member in late sixties, the Royalist has gifted the Crown which is only used by Royal family and British Army, After seeing the fabulous performances of the St. Sylvester's College Cadet band.
In Sri lankan Army, National Emblem is being used for the Army ranks and similarly the Royal Crown is being used in British Army  for their Ranks.
Even today, we can see this historical ornament in the Right hand of the St.Sylvester's College Band sergeant and it increases the glamorous look of the person who leads the way.
In Sri Lanka the St. Sylvester's College Cadet band is the only Sri lankan Band which uses the Historical Royal Army Crown.

The Independence day, 4 th of February of every year is an unforgettable and emotional day for St.Sylvesters’ Band. It is the last day of the band Sergeant and senior rankers of the year. It is litarally the last day of their school life.On completion of Independence Day parade the band returns back to the college via Kandy Clock Tower, ‘Dalada Street’ and ‘Yatinuwara Street’. One last salute to second mother... When the Sergeant turns the band from ‘Dalada Street' to ‘Yatinuwara Street’ at the bend in front of Kandy White House, his second mother comes to his sight from the corner of the ‘Yatinuwara Street’. THE ANCIENT METRONOME

St.Sylvester’s College represented almost all the national events in early days. Since 1973 St. Sylvester’s College eastern cadet band delivered their service as the official band of Sri Lanka Army 2nd Regiment of SLSR And also St. Sylvester’s College eastern cadet band was the official band of 2CC of Cadet Corps too. Because of that the college band had to maintain the marching speed of 120 steps per minute when servicing to the SL Army and SLCC. But the band had a habit of maintaining 130 steps per minute marching speed at their normal displays, since it adds more energy to the members and increase liveliness of the audience. Since it is difficult to adjust the marching speed regularly St.Sylvesters’ College officials requested for a Metronome from Sri Lanka Army to practice the marching speeds occasionally when it was needed. As a result of that, in year 1974 a new metronome was bought for the use of college cadet band with the help of SL Army and contribution from the College...

THE LEGACY

St.Sylvesters’ College Cadet Band has been the most dominating eastern cadet band in Sri Lankan history. It has won the most number of all island championships and outnumbered all other school bands in Sri Lanka by a considerable margin. St.Sylvesters was the first ever eastern cadet band in Sri Lanka and their history goes back to six decades. Their performance has been consistent since the beginning of ‘All Island Championships’ and they won the latest All Island Eastern Cadet Band title in 2020.
